Not your average Friday. An Energy Price War has broken out!: E-ON, first:utility and ScottishPower are cutting deep into their discounted offering

Effective date: Friday, October 2nd 2009

Great news for UK energy consumers! Weakness in the wholesale gas and electricity market has finally sparked a price war. Tariffs for energy switchers are tumbling, almost on an hourly basis.

Only yesterday (Thursday), German-owned energy giant E-ON announced a price cut to its leading discounted gas and electricity offer Fix Online v3, worth about GBP30 in extra savings to the average energy consumer.

And today, 2 energy suppliers keen not to concede ground, have made moves of their own.  First:Utility were first to slash their prices, adding GBP40 in average savings to their lead discount products iSave and Smart Energy. Within minutes, ScottishPower followed suit, by finessing the rates of it Online Energy Saver v7 tariff, which was only launched this Monday

It goes almost without saying that so much activity is great for consumers. Switch now, before it gets cold and heating bills drive up the cost of your energy at home.
